Good morning friends, I have missed you! My family was really under the weather these past couple weeks, therefore I had to skip last weeks post; but I am happy to report we are all back and better than ever and I am excited to share this weeks design inspo with you!
This week we are talking ‘Coastal Living Rooms,’ and man was it encouraging to think of the coast, and sun, and vacations, and light/bright and airy while my forecast still has snow in it. A reader specifically asked for this design, as she has recently purchased a vacation home that will serve as her home for part of the year and as a VRBO for the rest of the year. As usual I created two mood boards that capture a modern coastal living room. I wanted this space to feel fresh, but modern. The Oregon coast is a place where a lot of time is spent outdoors, but it is also spent indoors reading and playing board games, and I kept that in mind as I chose the decor. Let’s look at the first design.

When designing this board I really took the fact that the space will serve as a VRBO into consideration. When I think of a coastal living room, I think neutral area rug, but with guests you run the risk of heavy traffic, so I incorporated a dark area rug as a solid base. From there I added in several natural wood and white tones, and I am obsessed with the leather stools! These stools fold and they are a great way to incorporate extra seating around the coffee table. The woven basket it huge, and would make a great place for towel storage or a place to store throw blankets. The mango wood mirror is gorgeous and is at an amazing price point, and I think that that tic-tac-toe board is just the cutest addition. I love that this room is bright and comfortable, but also is forgiving for high traffic situations.

This second board incorporates a lot of the more traditional white, blue and natural wood tones. I first want to point out the sofa, FRIENDS this is a sleeper sofa, it comes in literally hundreds of colors, and it is a slipcover so that you can wash it. It also has fantastic reviews, with several commenting on how comfortable it is, I wish I had a place for it in my home! I also love the black and white striped stools, they are adorable, and they would be a great addition to a playroom or modern living room. The magazine holder is beautiful and would look great between two accent chairs. The coffee table looks modern and has such beautiful lines, it would be a great place to play a game of cards. This room feels fresh and bright and inviting, the way vacation should be!
After designing these rooms I have the urge to plan a vacation! Where are some of your favorite vacation spots for your family? If you are home today for the holiday so many of these items are on sale, it is a great time to make purchases for your home. I hope you feel refreshed and inspired. Happy Monday!
