Good morning and happy Monday! Today we are talking bedroom design and more specifically bedroom design surrounding a black bed. I actually had two readers ask for some ideas centering around a black bed, one asked me to use the theme of “succulents”- incorporating pinks, grays and greens, while the other simply wanted to brainstorm. I came up with three design boards, two of which incorporate the greens, pinks and grays, while the third provides a slightly different feel with blues and oranges. There are a lot of great sales going on and I worked to keep these budget friendly, with very few pieces you would need to splurge on. Most items are from Target and Wayfair, let’s take a look!
When I hear the word succulents it takes my mind to the spa. I think of fresh, clean and calming. With that in mind I incorporated both brass and wood tones in the design to create that natural feel and compliment the greens, grays and pinks. The green vases from World Market are gorgeous, I actually have one in my master bedroom. The area rug is probably THE MOST TALKED ABOUT area rug on social media and it comes at an unbelievably affordable price point, I recommend an 8×10 on up for a bedroom! And in the spirit of succulents, I love the idea of using the wood pots to incorporate succulents in the room. I aspire to make a bedroom feel calming and settling, and these pieces create that mood.
This second option mimics the first, however I brought in an area rug that could afford a bit more traffic, yet still feels light and airy. The bench is from Wayfair and I love the detail on it. I have been working to find a place for the marble accent table in my own home, I just love it. In this design board, as well as the next, I added in two light fixtures because a light fixture can transform a room all on its own. Listen friends, get rid of the “boob lights,” you and your home deserve more than a “boob light!” I would also like to point out the mango mirror that I placed horizontally, however you could also turn it vertically. I love the contrast of the greens and blacks in this room.
This final room has me wanting to change the colors in my office/playroom, I love the contrast of the blues, creams, and pink/orange (this makes me think of the FRIENDS episode where Ross loses his pink shirt and they fight over whether it is salmon or pink…hopefully one of you is a FRIENDS fan). The prints are from Etsy and are very affordable, you can even print at home! If you are looking for a color other than salmon I also think red would look great in this room, I love the idea of a vintage red throw pillow.
There are so many options you can choose with a black bed, it is a classic. With these designs I personally would incorporate white bedding that has some texture to it. Many feel that if they have a black bed they must have black nightstands and dresser, which actually is too much in my opinion. I used lightweight bed frames in these boards, but if you have a heavier bed frame, I recommend incorporating nightstands that match the size if you want a designer feel, do not use too small of a night stand with a large bed.
I hope these help you in your quest to make your bedroom feel inviting and relaxing.
